Weeknotes No.87
Half term is over, which means I can do things without being asked to play Lego City on the Switch, which I absolutely love gaming with my kids, but not all the time (scratch that… I love playing games all the time).
Oh, and the requests for snacks.. I am unsure what’s robbing my creative juices more - getting fruit and veg into the kids or my day job, my 2 little ones are the most demanding stakeholders I’ve ever worked with - HR would have a fieldday with them!
Contract update!
I am at that weird part of my contract, will it be renewed, or has my time come to an end? Either way, it’s been amazing. The work we are doing is proper stuff, it’ll go live, AND it’s wanted by its users, who have been a dream to work alongside. They know what they want, have communicated it clearly, but the fun is also in the parts where it hasn’t been clear. Give a designer a puzzle and watch them get their thinking face and hat on. I love this stuff!
I am doing things in this project I havent done in a long while, working on a design system that has very different components for very different reasons - things can range from table data - very run of the mill show data off, to insuring as much squeezes on the page as possible without the overwhelming the user issue, enlarging lines of text shown in tables (but the funactionality again, not taking up space) to my latest crush - designing visualisations for data! I’m still on my presentation road trip as well, it’s really good to be presenting work to very senior stakeholders (and being commended on my passion for this) whilst working in the weeds, this feels right for me at the moment, and I am very much enjoying doing the design leadership and design doing.
AI, it’s uses, it’s useless, it’s taking over the world.. or is it?
We spoke on Thursday (breaking the fourth wall here!) on the Podcast 1 Pixel Out about AI and its effects on jobs, our day to day and life - it was so interesting to see other people’s experiences and what the future feels like it could be. Can’t wait for it to come out and see what people think. The topic is wide-ranging, and we touched the surface, but it came across as 4 designers (who all do very different jobs within design) discussing issues, positives, and worries. It’s, as usual, a very open and flowing conversation with challenging questions - it’s one of those “down the pub with mates” chats that is being recorded. I also dropped in one of two mentions of bobbin and Bumble (think it might be 4-5) - free ads!
